In 1992, one man in Worcester, Maine began sending wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery – 5,000 per year, donated from his own company.
In 2005, a photo of the wreaths spread across the internet. Soon, people from around the country began offering to help. In 2007 a charity was set up so donations could be processed.
The program grew nationwide, and by 2019, over 2,000,000 wreaths were placed at over 2,000 veterans cemeteries honoring veterans buried across the US, overseas, and at sea.
All of these wreaths are still sponsored by donations from businesses and private individuals. Wreaths Across America receives no government funding.
